How India has helped train American soldiers

An Indian training institute has helped American troops train in Kashmir, where militants have killed Indian security forces.

Indian Defense Minister A K Antony told reporters Thursday that the training was “a major contribution to the safety of India and the peace and security of the region.”

Antony said Indian troops were “ready to fight” in the Kashmir region.

India’s training of Indian troops in Kashmir has been one of the most controversial aspects of the peace accords that the United States signed with India in 2010.

The Indian army and security forces have killed more than 300 people since a 2014 war that pitted Indian forces against separatists in Kashmir.

India says it is protecting Indian citizens and denies that the armed groups it considers its enemies are involved in the conflict.

India and the United Kingdom have a special relationship in the disputed Kashmir region that includes military cooperation and sharing of intelligence and technology.
